Alternative Accommodation Options
If you do not think that university student residences are the right option for you, there are alternative accommodation options that are available to students. In London, this consists of shared student housing and individual student flats.
Option 1: Shared Student Housing
- Shared student houses are located around Brunel University London which is close to transport links to London, local shops and the University campus.
- On average shared student houses have four to five private bedrooms with shared bathrooms, kitchens and living rooms.
- Most properties contain shared laundry facilities at no extra cost.
- A deposit and bond will need to be paid to the letting agent in order to secure the property.
- Students will also need to sign an accommodation contract which is a legally binding document that covers the terms and conditions of the rental agreement for the period of occupancy.
- Average costs of shared student houses vary from £450- £850 per month depending on the quality, facilities and location. Note that generally Shared Student accommodation is cheaper than Individual Student flats.
- Monthly rent can be inclusive or exclusive of heating/lighting and utility bills. If these amenities are not included then students must ensure they budget for this additional expense.

During your time at Brunel University London you may decide to live off-campus. In order to make this as easy as possible for you the University manages a number of properties in the local area which the University then rent to our students.
There is a wide choice of housing near the University which can be reasonably priced for the London area.

Options 2: Individual student flats
- Individual student flats usually comprise of one or two bedroom properties that are generally furnished to a high standard with fully fitted bathrooms and kitchens.
- Individual student flats often come with an allocated parking space.
- Contracts for individual student flats are usually for a minimum of 6 months.
- A deposit and bond will need to be paid to the letting agent in order to secure the property.
- Students will also need to sign an accommodation contract which is a legally binding document that covers the terms and conditions of the rental agreement for the period of occupancy.
- Rent for individual flats vary considerably depending on the number of bedrooms, bathrooms or the location of the flat. Note that generally individual student flats are more expensive than shared student houses.
- Price ranges from £950 – £2000 per calendar month.
- Monthly rent does not normally include utility bills. Gas, electricity, water and internet will all be paid at an additional cost and students will need to budget for this.
