Gateway to Medicine Foundation Programme (MBBS)

Course Overview

This two-semester foundation programme is designed to prepare ambitious students for entry into one of London’s newest medical schools. Combining clinical, scientific and communication skills development with early diagnostic training and interview coaching, this programme supports progression onto Brunel University of London’s 5-year MBBS, while also offering flexible pathways into related health degrees such as Biomedical Sciences.

Please note that this course is open to International Students Only. 

Application Deadlines

Applications for the September 2026 intake will close on Friday, 7 August 2026. 

Applications for the January 2027 intake will close on Friday, 30 October 2026.

Please note that applications will be considered under a competitive selection process. All complete applications received by the relevant application deadline will be reviewed and assessed together. Applicants may also be considered on factors such as academic achievement, personal statement, interview performance, English language proficiency, and overall suitability for the programme.

We strongly encourage applicants to submit all required documents well in advance of the relevant application deadline to ensure their application can be considered.

Entry Requirements: 

Equivalent to A level grades BCC including a B Chemistry and grade C in Biology, Physics, or Maths AND must have achieved Five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including grade 5/B in Maths and two science subjects.

Course Details

Foundation Modules

Biology 1 & 2

Macromolecules, cell biology, enzyme activity, homeostasis, physiology, genetics, evolution, biodiversity, and molecular biology.

Chemistry 1 & 2

A fundamental basis for the study of chemistry in preparation for university-level studies.

Mathematics

Advanced maths and statistical analysis for medicine.

Professional Skills in Healthcare

Essential knowledge, practical skills, and professional understanding for healthcare – covering the healthcare system, professional roles, communication, ethics, and reflective practice.

Research Methods

Critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and clinical reporting.

Interactive Learning Skills

Developing academic literacy, communication skills and cross-discipline expression.

Progression Requirements

Academic Requirements: 

– All core module must be passed at Grade B
– All other modules passed at Grade C
– IELTS 7.0 required at the point of progression
– A progression interview must be passed (Pass/Fail component)

Age Requirement: 

– Applicants must be 18 years old at the point of progression to MBBS

Criminal Record and Suitability Checks

As this programme is designed to prepare students for progression to the MBBS programme, applicants should be aware that progression onto the MBBS programme is subject to meeting the University’s Fitness to Practise requirements.

International students will be required to provide an official Criminal Clearance Certificate or equivalent criminal record check from any country in which they have resided, together with any required UK Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks prior to commencing clinical study and an Occupation Health Check. Failure to obtain satisfactory clearance may prevent progression to the MBBS programme.

Students will require several checks to be completed, as a progression requirement.

Degrees Available

After successfully completing the Brunel Pathway College course, you can progress directly onto the Medicine MBBS programme at Brunel Medical School.

**Should you be unsuccessful in your progression interview you may have the option to progress onto:

*For BSc programmes in Nursing, Occupational Therapy (OT), and Physiotherapy (PT), students are required to complete a professionally focused interview during their foundation year. This interview is a mandatory progression requirement for entry into the degree programme. Students are also required to achieve an overall IELTS 7.0 (no less than 6.5 in each band) for progression.
